Goa is hosting this week one of the prestigious four-day event, the Asian Mycological Congress, from 7 October.

Around 250 delegates and students will attend the conference in Panaji, including around 75 delegates from Asian countries, EU countries, North America and South America.

Senior scientists and researchers from Japan, Korea, Malaysia, Philippines, Singapore, Indonesia and Vietnam would participate in the conference, besides representatives from UK, USA, Canada, New Zealand and Germany.

Though last Congress was held in China, no Chinese delegate however would attend the Congress due to regulations of Government of India.

Prof B F Rodrigues, Organizing Secretary of AMC-2015, said the event is important for the development of science, technology, education, research, industry, economy and commerce.

The conference is jointly organised by Goa University, Mycological Society of India and Asian Mycological Association.

Though scientists would deliberate several technical issues during the Congress, the organisers have also organised a public lecture, for laymen and students, on 8 October.

Prof. Keith Seifert, a Canadian President of the International Mycological Association, will speak on “Five Micro fungi that changed the World”, at Institute Menezes Braganza hall at 5 pm.

Similarly, the Congress has also organised a panel discussion “how university research can result in industrial spinoff” at Surendrababu Timblo Hall of GCCI on 10 October at 9.15 am.

The panel discussion would be moderated by Shrikumar Suryanarayan, CMD of SEa6Energy Private Ltd., Bangalore. Panaji MLA Siddharth Kuncalienker will chair the session.
