NCP fears epidemic over sewage disposal

The Nationalist Congress Party has expressed fear of an epidemic as sewage tankers of Goa are either dumped in the rivers or on the top of the hills.

Goa NCP chief spokesperson Trajano D’Mello disclosed to media today the RTI information sought in this regard that none of the sewage tanker in Goa has permission of the Goa State Pollution Control Board.

“Due to the offloading in rivers, our fish is either dying or the polluted fish is being sold in the market, endangering lives of Goans”, said D’Mello.

When these tankers are offloaded on the hill tops, he said it is flowing down to the villages, spreading pollution.

He has thus appealed to the GPSCB to immediately take control of the situation and monitor the sewage collection and disposal by the sewage tankers.

While addressing a press conference today afternoon, D’Mello also alleged that chief minister Manohar Parrikar is promoting corruption by delaying the appointments of Chief and State Information Commissioners.

He also asked why Parrikar had sought information from PIOs and APIOs about the RTI applicants if it is not to harass the RTI activists.

According to him, Parrikar has always tried to suppress vital information from getting released to the public and trying all possible methods to block this information from getting disseminated.

He also reminded about Parrikar’s last term when, during the first IFFI preparation, he had claimed that the GSIDC does not come under the purview of the RTI.

GSIDC had built the whole infrastructure for IFFI in Goa.
