Will complete Vajpayee's incomplete work: Modi

Narendra Modi garlanded at BJP workers' rally

After appointing him as the chairman election campaign committee, Gujarat chief minister Narendra Modi today assured that he would complete the work that had remained incomplete during former BJP Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee.

Though none of the BJP leaders referred Modi as the future prime minister of the country, they gave enough indications to that effect.

“By appointing Modi as the campaign chief, we have provided a strong leader today who can pull out the country of the ongoing crisis”, said Rajnath Singh, the BJP national president.

In fact Singh stood up to speak when Modi’s name was called, stating that the leader of the country should speak last.

“In democracy, the popular person should be made the leader”, said Singh, adding that he is getting immense satisfaction by appointing a right person in a right place.

“I did not hesitate in appointing Modi as the campaign chief”, since, he said, “yeh insaaf ki maang thi.”

Referring to the Coalgate scam that points fingers at Prime Minister Manmohan Singh, the BJP president said: “We want a prime minister who is not corrupt.”

Rajya Sabha opposition leader Arun Jaitley also described Modi’s new job as a new direction provided to the Indian polity.

“Rajnath-ji has given face to the feelings of not only party workers, but crores of Indians”, said Jaitley.

Converting the rally into a launch pad of the election campaign for the forthcoming Lok Sabha election, Jaitley also announced that the campaign begins from today.

In a fiery speech, Modi also assured to fulfill the dream envisaged by his party president Rajnath Singh.

He thanked the party workers for molding him and the leaders for giving him the strength, Modi said he is today prepared to take the responsibility bestowed upon him by the party.

Recalling the 2002 national executive meeting (on the background of Gujarat riots) held in Goa when party had reposed confidence in him, the Gujarat CM expressed confidence in taking up the new challenge.

It was because of this faith, Modi said, he could convert Gujarat into a developed state that is today competing with the growth rate of China.

“The media says Goa is lucky for Modi and I feel that Goa has always blessed me”, said Modi amidst applause and slogans in his support.

In his 45-minute long speech, Modi went on telling various incidents of how he had countered Prime Minister Manmohan Singh on different occasions on the issue of Naxalism, internal security and other vital issues.

The three-day national conclave of the BJP concluded today not only by appointing Modi as the campaign chief but even by creating an aura around him as the future leader of the country.
