Churchill celebrates 'anti-Mopa' birthday

Family Raj fame Churchill Alemao’s 64th birthday bash last night turned out to be yet another anti-Mopa rally as the heavyweight defeated politician vowed to lead the agitation “if people want it.”

Churchill, who had started anti-Mopa agitation earlier, said two air ports would never function in Goa.

He also disclosed that he was the vice chairperson of defense committee, when he was the South Goa MP, where he came to know the inside story of Mopa air port.

The outdated politician today also said he is prepared to come back to politics if people want.

In fact it was the priest, who raised a toast of his birthday, said both Churchill and Radharao Gracias should lead the anti-Mopa agitation.

Gracias, while speaking on the occasion, said Mopa is a political agitation and priests have no business to tell that politicians cannot participate in this agitation.

He also alleged that the legislators, who were present at the anti-Mopa rally in Margao, were the front runners promoting BJP government in Goa.

He also praised Churchill as a permanent 108 service of Goa, reaching out to anybody who is in trouble.

Former home minister Ravi Naik, who at one time had sent Churchill to Aguada jail for his anti-social activities, praised him for the developmental works he had done as the PWD minister in the erstwhile government.

“When Churchill was the PWD minister, funds were flowing to his department and it was fully utilized for the welfare of Goans”, he said.

Fatorda’s independent MLA Vijay Sardesai criticized the BJP government for not congratulating Churchill Brothers team for the stunning victory, winning prestigious I-League  soccer championship.

Thanks to Radharoa for reminding me, through this news report, that Mopa is a political agitation.

Since my childhood, I thought political agitation meant to be when our MLAs find it too itchy in their backsides probably sitting in the opposition for so long that they begin to agitate.

And the archdiocese of Goa says Church never interferes with politics.
