ECI issues notice to Govt over Cortalim issues

The state Election Commission has issued a notice to Manohar Parrikar-led government for violating model code of conduct, imposed due to the impending June 2 Cortalim bypoll.

Chief Minister Manohar Parrikar had recently announced that the state will not go ahead with the proposed marina project in Sancoale village, which lies in Cortalim assembly constituency.

State cabinet had also announced regularisation of workers employed for eradicating malaria.

Goa's joint chief electoral officer Narayan Navti issued a notice to the chief secretary and advised the government to refrain from making such announcements till the process of byelection to Cortalim constituency was not over.

The byelection was necessitated following the demise of tourism minister Matanhy Saldanha, who died of a massive cardiac arrest recently.

Right to Information (RTI) activist Aires Rodrigues had yesterday filed a complaint with the Election Commission against the state government for violating the model code of conduct.

Meanwhile, the case of inducting Alina Saldanha into the cabinet has been referred to the Election Commission of India.

Adv Aires Rodrigues had filed a complaint objecting to Alina's proposed induction, claiming that she would be the BJP candidate from Cortalim.

Chief minister Parrikar howver had gone into a defiant mood stating that the cabinet induction is his constitutional power and election code of conduct cannot apply to it.

Dear Cynthia and Domnick, You misunderstood me, Sorry to hurt your feelings . I am happy that Mr. Parikar is in power and that the goonda raj is over forever . Right now we are mourning the death of our great leader Saldhana so do his wife, this is not the time to be emotional and select the leader by force. Bring a candidate who will fight to stop mopa project, scrap RP as stated by Micky and his parter ms. Viola.

cheers !!!

I agree with you Domnick. Looks like John was very happy about the Alemao family coming to raj, but seems disappointed. The Alemaos have robbed Goa. They thought they would own Goa and the Goans. Good ridence to bad rubbish. Flush the Alemaos down the toilets.
