Justice Shah to decide Digambar's fate
GOANEWS DESK, PANAJI | 14 October 2011 23:46 ISTJustice M B Shah, probing into illegal mining in Goa, would probably decide the fate of Digambar Kamat, the chief minister.
Amidst strong rumours of leadership change, Kamat has received respite from Congress president Sonia Gandhi.
The chief minister met Sonia yesterday.
“There is no possibility of leadership change”, said Goa Pradesh Congress Committee president Subhash Shirodkar, after the meeting today evening.
Sources from Digambar camp claim that Sonia has assured him that he would lead the party to forthcoming Assembly election.
Shirodkar however today was non-committal on the issue.
“I cannot say anything about that”, he said, when asked for his reaction in this regard.
Highly placed sources in the Congress disclosed that Sonia’s assurance is conditional.
If the Justice Shah Commission report does not indict him in the rampant ongoing illegal mining, then she is prepared to project him as the leader of the party when it goes for poll.
Meanwhile, Justice Shah arrived in Goa today for further probe into illegal mining.
Taking advantage of this issue, sources close to Digambar camp claim that health minister Vishwajeet Rane was desperately trying to dislodge Kamat.
It is even learnt that a PR agency was engaged to get all the national TV channels to Goa to report about the mining issue.
On the other hand, home minister Ravi Naik’s name had started floating as an alternative for Kamat as there were no recipients for speaker Pratapsing Rane.
The dust over leadership issue however has temporarily settled down, though all eyes are definitely set on Justice Shah report.
The Headmaster of Goa, Mr Digamber Kamat , has failed miserably in everything. His "Mining" Students , have all become un - manageabe and unruly. He has lost control over them.He has been unable to administer & over see the Mining Curriculum. In reality he has turned a blind eye to all that is evil. For this simple reason he must go , get sacked and jailed. He has absolutely no concept of the destruction caused by Mining. All those employed and connected with the Mining industry, in fear of losing their livelihoods ,must lay the blame for their current predicament at his door.He seems to be blaming everyone else for the scams, destruction and corruption in Goa , but him self.Mr Digu Kamat is none other, than a 2 faced person. One face for Party consumption and the other for Public consumption. All I say is good riddance to this bad rubbish.
What will happen by changing the leader...? Is the next man in waiting a better option?
The positive quality of the present incumbent is that he is easily approachable and gives a patient hearing even to his opponents. He is also not as arrogant as some of the incumbents Goa has seen in the past....some whom also firmly believed that they are born to rule and all other people of Goa are born to be ruled...
Will Goa ever get a honest ruler who values ideologies and principles....rather than only wealth....
Digambaar has been the poster child of mining industry for ages, right from his BJP days. So relax, nothing much is going to happen now. The mining industry in Goa is a very strong and powerful to whither such storms in a tea cup and they will take care of their curator.
