Assembly poll by Feb, dissolution by Oct
GOANEWS DESK, PANAJI | 02 August 2011 14:39 ISTIt’s clear now. Ruling Congress is planning to go for early Assembly polls, by February or March.
Goa Pradesh Congress Committee president Subhash Shirodkar has confirmed that they are planning to go for Assembly polls before Panchayat elections.
The term of the present Assembly otherwise expires in June 2012, as it was constituted in June 2007.
The term of panchayats, however, expires in May next year.
Shirodkar also confirmed that they may go for dissolution of the Assembly by October, paving way for early elections.
“The decision in this regard however has to be taken by the cabinet”, he clarified.
Similar decision is also being echoed by deputy speaker Mauvin Godinho, the spokesperson of the Congress Legislature Party.
The CLP, at a meeting held on 26 July, had discussed the issue of Assembly dissolution and early polls.
However, the decision was not disclosed.
But chief minister Digambar Kamat had admitted that the meeting had discussed about election, without elaborating further.
The state has thus started gearing up for state election.
