International Film Festival of India (IFFI) premises will be under ''Tobacco scanner'' with police and anti-tobacco organisations gearing up to crack down on smokers during the ten day long event.
Goa government's State Level Steering Committee (SLSC) has decided to assign Crime Branch the job of tracking down violators of anti tobacco law and fine them on the spot.
Dr Shekhar Salkar, renowned anti-tobacco activist and SLSC member said that the fee would be compounded without waiting for the formalities like filing a case or sending the summons.
IFFI had come under the scanner last year for violating anti tobacco law.
Two filmstars, Rajat Kapur and Radhika Apte, were shown smoking in the IFFI premises.
"This year, policemen in civil dress would be posted who will keep a watch on the violators. Whoever he may be, a hero or delegate, no one would be spared," said Salkar.
He has in the past dragged Bollywood biggies like Amitabh Bachchan in court while issuing notices to others like Shahrukh Khan and Ajay Devgn for smoking in public.
Anti-tobacco crusaders have decided to rope in IFFI organisers and Entertainment Society of Goa, to implement the law. .
